Keeping up with what is going on in the world of fashion can
be tough at the best of times, but as the seasons change from winter to summer
in the northern hemisphere, it can be even more difficult. Even for
the most clued up of us, a little guidance is always welcome, especially if it
means we don’t suddenly find ourselves standing in the baking sunshine
wearing thick knitwear, a parka jacket and wool lined boots.
We explored some of the biggest trends for 2013, look out
for these in the shops so that you are ready for when the mercury rises.
Bermuda Shorts
The great thing about Bermuda shorts is that you aren’t just
going to see them with questionable patterns and over the top colours this
summer.
While they will, of course, be available in such varieties,
perhaps the standout way to wear them will be with a matching tailored jacket.
You might need to be extra brave to wear this look to the office, so keep it
for a night out and finish the look with ‘gladiator’ sandals with as big a heel
as you can deal with.
Exaggerated Sizing
Oversized clothing has been a hallmark of urban trends for
years, but for 2013 it is finding its way into almost every item that will
feature in your wardrobe. The most common example will be the dress, where
exaggerated shoulders and hips will lead the way, despite thoughts that it
might not be the most flattering look that was ever dreamed up.
Perhaps an oversized shirt or jacket will be the way to go
if you want subtle exaggeration, especially as you could put both formal and
casual twists on such a look.
1960’s Chic
In recent years we have seen vintage style become huge, as
well as contemporary styles being modelled on iconic decades such as the 1920’s
and 1950’s. In 2013, it is the turn of the 1960’s to be in the spotlight, with
simple tops and cardigans being paired with high-waist, knee length skirts and
quaint heels.
Accessories will be the key to pulling off this look, and
simple beads and a clutch bag will be all you need to deliver yourself a
definitive style. If you can find vintage clothes actually from the 60’s, then
you will be even better placed to create an authentic, iconic style that will
turn heads everywhere you go.
Look out for 2013’s iconic looks when they hit stores, and
ensure you show your friends the way when it comes to the years’ essential
looks.
